Outside of nursing and some other roles women should not be allowed in the military at all, or at the least they be kept in separate, non combat units, but we live in clown world and government departments are obsessed with working towards “gender” parity, even in the armed forces, whereby doing so can only weaken operational effectiveness and make the country a laughing stock.
There are always dozens of these ads on Seek, from all three branches of the military. They add this disclaimer:
The Australian Defence Force is an equal opportunity employer. This advertisement is to ensure women are aware of the rewarding and fulfilling careers available in the Navy, Army and Air Force. Females are encouraged to apply, however all roles are open for Australian men and women to apply.
Men can apply but what actually happens is in the early stages of recruitment for a given position they will basically only consider female candidates; if they don’t get enough suitable females then, at the last possible moment (6 weeks) before enlistment and training are to begin, they will deign to consider men. They are aiming at having 25% women in the Army by 2023, currently it is about 15%.
The Chief of Army, Angus Campbell, eventually gets around to admitting this at a Senate Estimates session:
God help us if we ever get into a fight with a serious country (China) some day.
