The Australian is enjoying an extraordinary surge in audience, with more than 4.5 million people now reading the national daily in print and digital each month.
From the very beginning of the “pandemic” it became very clear that the television stations and newspapers had seized on the issue with unholy glee as a way of making themselves relevant again. Or they were given some command from on high, whatever, it worked, in year on year relative terms anyway:

Of late they have had to back off a little from the 24/7 scaremongering, because the Wuhan virus* is essentially eliminated in Australia, for now at any rate. The breathless BREAKING Live Coronavirus Updates! stuff, and fake cases and body count infographics, have gone or been relegated down the page, and more prosaic news stories usually lead things.

So instead we get BREAKING Sacred Trees Saved For Now stories – although this is annoying and childish, there is an aspect to it that you might want to be happy about, ie living in a country where this kind of drivelous nonsense is actually news, because nothing much else (bad) is going on, but this is probably complicated, in terms of thinking about what they are ignoring while doing their catering to idiotic AWFLs stuff. Also what is being legally suppressed**.

Meanwhile, Channel Ten can not be forgiven for this “glued to the tv” ad that was on repeat for months (its one redeeming feature is at 43 secs, Claudia Karvan is OKAY with us):
If normals weren’t so glued to the tv a lot of this people hoisting their skirts over their heads and running around like shrieking girls wouldn’t be nearly so bad.
* “Wuhan Virus/Flu” is its official name, or should be, for obvious reasons (that’s where it first became known). There are some souls who don’t like giving it a Chinese name, because that’s racist, or that it didn’t originate in China: doesn’t matter, the “Spanish Flu” had nothing to do with Spain, it’s just that because of wartime censorship only the Spanish newspapers were reporting on it, but it’s the Spanish Flu and so it will remain, and if in the unlikely event that that offends any Spaniards, then you need to worry about bigger problems, like making more babies so you don’t vanish from the earth and be replaced by all the dusky 25 year old child refugees you let in, Spaniards.
** Victoria issues about 300 suppression orders a year, double what more populous NSW does. One example we know of: the rape of a young girl walking to school, by two men, a story that the tabloids would have gone nuts over, never got into the news, even local.
