This somewhat personable American black lady, like many tourists in the before times, gets confused about what country she is in when taking in the watery sights of Sydney. Why is it so full of Asians, she wonders. And why are these Asians spewing their 13/50 racism at me? I have to hide in my room to avoid them, on New Year’s Eve!
This African beauty, whether hyper sensitive and daring anyone to look at her the wrong way or not, would no doubt be intrigued to learn that state governments in a sense pay Asians to buy our houses. So screams a news.com.au headline anyway:
“Australia “will pay foreigners up to $50,000″ to buy a new home as Perth market set to boom”
Lily Chong, the Perth-based Australian head of Chinese property portal Juwai IQI, is all over it:
Australia will pay Chinese up to $50,000 to buy a new home, Australia will pay Hong Kong-ers, Australia will pay Malaysians – it doesn’t matter where you come from.
It’s a free for all! We’ll take anyone’s money! And then give some of it back to them! No Chinaman of means could turn his nose up at such a deal!
What it actually means, when you temper the real estate spruiker BUY NOW talk, is that the West Australian government, in its unholy determination to prop up the failing property market, will refund up to $50,000 worth of the foreign buyer duty which is imposed on foreigners buying houses, well, usually apartments.
Chong breathlessly adds:
It’s all in the interests of supporting the economy.
We have a winner. Since “economic rationalism” (no-one uses this term anymore) won the day in the 1980s and 90s and successive federal governments of either stripe decided to ship off our manufacturing industry overseas, our economy – ignoring mining and agriculture, which we can sell off but not ship out, – consists largely of the property market and higher education industry, and both are very dependent on lots of ant people coming, among others, and not forgetting to bring their of-questionable-source wads of cash.
We have another winner from the astute Chong:
people are going to make a lot of money
This is where the lack of will to oppose mass immigration and the firesale of our country at least partly comes from, because so many people are, well, invested in the market, whether it’s just older man Bruce the policeman and his wife Sharon the nurse who like seeing the value of their home go up and up and feel psychic pain if it on paper goes down, or the legions of negatively geared pigs at the trough local investors in residential property. It all depends so much on immigration and selling out, given that our fertility rate is too low (high property prices don’t help there) and the government gave up on its pro-natalist efforts in the mid 2000s and ramped up immigration instead. Too many of us are easily bought off.
We need to listen to this strutting American queen of colour with the solid pair of child bearing hips, and understand the pain and bewilderment she felt at ending up in just another Asian ant colony.
